The world champion “The Ring General” is back.
Gunther defeated Jey Uso in a rematch of their WrestleMania 41 encounter to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the June 9 episode of Raw. Although Uso was still recovering from his bout at Money in the Bank due to an injured abdomen, it was an entertaining contest as he defended the match two days later.
The challenger deliberately targeted Uso’s injured area, and Gunther placed Uso in the sleeper hold after bringing the champion to the ground. The referee rang the bell after Uso was knocked out, awarding the title to Gunther.
Ironically, Uso defeated Gunther using the sleeper hold, which is the same maneuver Uso used to defeat him on the first night of WrestleMania 41. Less than two months after losing the title on April 19, Gunther has regained it with his second world championship.
Gunther lost the title to Uso after holding it for 258 days after winning it at SummerSlam 2024. In May 2023, the title was launched, and Gunther is the first celebrity to win it twice.
The defeat puts a 51-day end to Uso’s reign.
