How Does Grand Slam Track Work?
The athletes are separated into six event groups: long sprints (200m/400m), long hurdles (400mH/400m), short distance (800m/1500m), long distance (3000m), and short sprints (racing the 100m and 200m).
For all four Grand Slams, 24 men’s and 24 women’s “Racers” have registered, four for each event group. Each eight-athlete event group’s remaining fields are filled by men’s and women’s “Challengers” for each individual Slam. New Racers or Challengers take the place of competitors who are forced to withdraw from competitions.
The winners of each event group at each Slam are determined by the points that athletes earn depending on their performance.
At the conclusion of the season, one overall women’s and one overall men’s winner will be crowned.

Philadelphia’s Grand Slam Track Key Races
Women’s 100m Hurdles (Short Hurdles), Saturday, 6:22 p.m. ET
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone competes in the 100-meter and 100-meter hurdles in Philadelphia after competing in the 400-meter and 400-meter hurdles. As a warm-up for the 400-meter race, she has previously competed in the 100-meter hurdles, setting a personal record of 12.65 seconds. Seven women with a PB of 12.51 or quicker, whose main event is the 100-meter hurdles, compete against her in Philadelphia. American Tia Jones, who became the third-fastest woman in history with a time of 12.19 at the most recent Grand Slam, is the group’s leader.
Men’s 800m (Short Distance), Saturday, 4:57 p.m. ET
For his first time competing on an outdoor track, American Josh Hoey, a breakout star of the indoor season, takes on Olympic silver medallist Marco Arop from Canada, one of the 800m kings. After finishing fourth in the 2024 Olympic Trials, Hoey went on to win the global indoor title in March and record the second-fastest indoor 800m in history in February.
Women’s Short Hurdles 100m On Sunday at 4:18 p.m. ET
McLaughlin-Levrone will compete in her first 100-meter race since 2018, when she was a freshman at the University of Kentucky and had a wind-aided mark of 11.07 seconds. Tilastopaja.info reports that it is the quickest flat 100-meter time ever recorded by a woman in the Philadelphia short hurdles group. Ackera Nugent, a Jamaican, possesses the group’s quickest wind-legal personal best, having won the Grand Slam Track Miami race in 2021 with a time of 11.09.
Women’s 100m (Short Sprints), Sunday, 5:13 p.m. ET
Olympic 200-meter champion Gabby Thomas, who won the long sprint championship at the first meet in Kingston, is competing in the short sprints for the second straight Slam. Last time out in Miami, Olympic 100-meter bronze medallist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden defeated Thomas by one point after combining her 100- and 200-meter scores to win the short sprints title. Jefferson-Wooden won the 100m and finished third in the 200m, while Thomas won the 200m and finished fourth in the 100m. Anticipate the two engaging in another duel in Philadelphia.
