Since February of last year, Google One has grown by 50% to reach 150 million customers. Since May 2018, the subscription service has been available.
Google One “recently crossed 150 million subscribers,” according to Reuters today, with “millions” of subscriptions being made to the AI Premium tier, which costs $19.99 a month in the US. (Whether or not that includes free trials for a full year is uncertain.)
In February 2024, when AI Premium was introduced to gain access to Gemini Advanced and other capabilities, the firm last stated 100 million subscribers. In general, Google is now considering subscriptions as a means of making money off of Gemini.
For $1.99 a month, Google One “Basic” offers 100 GB of storage across Drive, Gmail, and Photos. The “standard” price is $2.99 for 200 GB, plus 3% for purchases made through the Google Store.
The next tier, “Premium,” costs $9.99 for 2 TB and offers unlimited Google Photos Magic Editor savings in addition to 10% back at the Google Store. Additionally, there are paid Google Workspace capabilities like Calendar appointment scheduling and extended Meet calls that may be livestreamed to YouTube.
Next is Google One AI Premium, which includes Gemini Advanced, NotebookLM Plus, and Gemini (side panel) for Workspace, Docs, and Gmail. Early access to experimental AI capabilities, such as Search AI Mode and other Labs, is also made available via it.
You get all the other perks including 5 TB of storage for $24.99 a month. After that, it’s just additional storage:
- $49.99: 10 TB
- $99.99: 20 TB
- $149.99: 30 TB
Google One has yearly subscriptions ranging from 100 GB ($19.99) to 5 TB ($249.99), with some monthly discounts; nevertheless, AI Premium is oddly not included.
While Google One began selling Fitbit Premium and Nest Aware in the UK last year, we’ll likely see some further enhancements for AI Premium next week. That hasn’t grown yet, but consumers would much rather have YouTube Premium included. A small discount is the closest we’ve come to that thus far.
