Today’s doodle honors Ukraine’s Independence Day. On this day in 1991, the Ukrainian Parliament passed a law declaring Ukraine independent, and the country became a sovereign democracy.
The 33rd anniversary of independence celebrates the resilience of the Ukrainian people and pays tribute to all those who have sacrificed for the nation, past and present.
Independence Day is a day to celebrate Ukrainian culture and traditions. One such symbol is the two-tone flag seen in today’s Doodle. This flag represents Ukraine’s vast golden wheat fields and blue skies and was raised during the Ukrainian War of Independence.
