Today’s doodle celebrates Saudi Arabia’s National Day. On this day in 1932, Saudis celebrated the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
On National Day, citizens decorate the streets with the green flag, as seen in today’s artwork, and take part in parades, festivals, concerts, and more. The main celebrations take place in the capital Riyadh, and include the highly anticipated Saudi Hawks Air Show, where people can see an impressive display of fighter jets. Many also attract attention by decorating their cars with celebratory symbols and speeding through the streets.
National delicacies such as kabsa (rice with meat and vegetables), martabak (stuffed pancakes), and ma’amoul (cookies with nuts) are enjoyed throughout the day. To conclude the holiday, a spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky, proclaiming that Saudi Arabia will move forward in a year of progress, prosperity and pride.
Happy National Day, Saudi Arabia!
