Google doodle celebrates the art of Đờn Ca Tài Tử, a traditional genre of southern Vietnamese chamber music

This Doodle honours and promotes the music genre of Đờn Ca Tài Tử, which is Vietnamese culture. The artwork features musicians performing Đờn Ca Tài Tử, and it was illustrated by guest artist Camelia Pham.

Since the late 19th century, Đờn Ca Tài Tử has been performed; its origins are in ceremonial and Hue Royal Court music. This lovely tune is produced by the harmonic instruments that are most frequently played in the Southern region. The Đờn Ca Tài Tử ensemble may include of a violin, pliers, zither, lute, concave guitar, flute, pipa, and stork in addition to a singer. You won’t be surprised to learn that Đờn Ca Tài Tử is nearly always performed in a group setting given all those instruments.

Almost 100 traditional songs, including old and unique (Ancestral) songs, serve as a continuing source of inspiration for clever lyricists who constantly create new music. The musicians will learn how to play their instruments from a tutor who is conversant in old songs, while another teaches singing and chanting. The ensemble produces entrancing music when they join together.
