Google doodle celebrates Cambodia’s 69th Independence Day

Lets wish Cambodia a happy 69th Independence Day! On this day in 1953, the country formally declared its independence, ushering in a period of sovereignty following a century under foreign authority.

The Doodle of today honours the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, who gave his all to the cause of independence and celebrates the tenacity and pride of the Cambodian people.

The nation of Cambodia celebrates its independence with lavish festivities and feasts. Traditional Cambodian foods include beef loc lac, bai sak chrouk (pork with rice), and amok trey (steamed fish and coconut stew) (tender beef with lime dipping sauce). The Norodom Sihanouk Memorial (also known as the Statue of King Father Norodom Sihanouk) is situated near the Independence Monument in the city’s centre, where the main official ceremony is held.

A grand parade is also conducted, with marching bands and vibrant floats displaying the red and blue national flag of Cambodia, similar to the one seen in the current piece of art. A large fireworks show near the Royal Palace flows across the sky to mark the end of the holiday.
