ESPN reported on Wednesday that tennis player Coco Gauff had parted ways from her coach just days before the US Open this year.
The two-time Grand Slam singles champion has not made the announcement in public, but rumors have it that coach Matthew Daly will be leaving her squad.
Gauff’s reps have been contacted by CNN Sports for comment.
“Only have good things to say about Coco, enjoyed working with her,” Daly told Bounces, adding that the decision was made “recently.”
Gauff will reportedly continue to train with her longtime coach Jean-Christophe Faurel and add biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan.
Reuters reports that the world No. 3 was spotted this week in New York working out with her new coaching staff, with special focus on her serve and forehand.
Many people believe that MacMillan, who works in a variety of sports, helped current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka become a better serve.
Gauff has struggled with serving lately; in the Canadian Open earlier this month, the American committed 42 double faults in just three games, according to Reuters.
However, Gauff demonstrated some of her best tennis under Daly and Faurel’s tutelage, winning the French Open this year and the WTA Finals last year.
However, the 21-year-old’s form has been poor lately; he lost to Dayana Yastremska, the 42nd-ranked player in the world at the time, at Wimbledon in the opening round.
At this year’s US Open, where she won the 2023 edition and will be among the top seeds in the draw, Gauff will try to make up for her losing performance.
Later on Thursday, the draw will take place, and the singles competition will begin on Sunday.
