You’re in for a treat if you enjoy golf, celebrities, and celebrities playing golf. The 36th edition of the 2025 American Century Championship golf event will be broadcast on NBC, Peacock, and the GOLF Channel, and it will once again feature a packed field.
Around 90 sports and entertainment stars are competing in this year’s field, which starts this Friday at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Notable names include Stephen Curry, Travis Kelce, and Charles Barkley, the man with the golden swing. What you should know is as below!
How can you watch the American Century Championship golf tournament in 2025?
Peacock will start airing coverage of the 36th American Century Championship at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, July 11; the GOLF Channel will re-air the event at 8 p.m. ET. At 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 12, NBC/Peacock will begin airing coverage of the Second Round. On Sunday, July 13 at 2:30 p.m. ET, the tournament comes to an end on NBC/Peacock.
Understanding the scoring system in the American Century Championship golf tournament
In contrast to typical PGA tournaments, the American Century Championship employs a modified Stableford scoring format throughout its 54 holes. Instead of keeping score based on par, players earn points based on their performance on each hole. For instance, an Albatross (3 strokes under par) awards a player 10 points; a hole-in-one is valued at 8 points; an eagle (2 under) gives 6 points; a birdie (1 under) earns 3 points; par (even) is worth 1 point; a bogey (1 over) scores 0 points; and a double bogey or worse (2 over or more) results in a deduction of 2 points. This means players cannot score lower than a double bogey (wouldn’t that be a relief in every round?).
The player with the highest points total after three rounds is declared the winner. Last year (and in 2020), that title was claimed by former tennis star Mardy Fish. “This is the one you really want to win. American Century is truly the Super Bowl,” Fish remarked to NBC Sports last year.
This year, fish will be included once more. He is favorite to win the tournament again with +240 odds, along with fellow two-time winner Curry. Former NHL player Joe Pavelski, former NFL quarterback and current analyst Tony Romo, former MLB star and current analyst John Smoltz, and NBA veteran Charles Barkley are among the other celebrities with good odds of winning.
However, that only scratches the surface of the big names participating.
Who are the celebrities competing in this year’s American Century golf tournament?
Some of the notable names competing in this year’s American Century Championship include Fish, Curry (and his dad, Dell), Kelce (and his brother, Jason), Romo, Barkley, Aaron Rodgers, Alfonso Ribeiro, Annika Sorenstam, Miles Teller, Colin Jost, Ray Romano, and Larry the Cable Guy. First-time participants include Basketball Hall-of-Famer Grant Hill, San Francisco 49ers All-Pro Tight End George Kittle, and WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
Announcers of the American Century golf tournament
NBC Sports’ live tournament coverage will be anchored by host Steve Sands and the analyst Peter Jacobsen, so there will be a lot of celebrity power in the booth as well. Jimmy Roberts, Roger Maltbie, Smylie Kaufman, and Kira K. Dixon will join them. At Hole 17, the tournament’s official party hole, you can also see Kaufman and Dixon reenacting their PGA TOUR Happy Hour interview appearances on NBC Sports. The beachfront par-3 is crowded with fans, boats, music, booze, and other exciting activities that aren’t typically seen at a golf tournament.
