Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg Confirms Lease Loss at End of 2026

Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg

According to an internal memo from the venue’s promoter, Bowery Presents, acquired by Variety, the Music Hall of Williamsburg, which has been one of the most well-known and best-sounding venues in the New York City area for twenty years, will lose its lease at the end of 2026 and be forced to relocate or close.

Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Tyler, the Creator, Tame Impala, St. Vincent, Ed Sheeran, Brandi Carlile, the xx, The Weeknd, Robyn, and hundreds, if not thousands, of other artists have performed at the 650- capacity Brooklyn venue at 66 North Sixth Street (originally a smaller room called Northsix).

Although future plans are currently unknown, the facility will continue to hold performances until the end of next year.

The complete memo from Bowery Presents co-partners John Moore and Jim Glancy is included below.

Hello Bowery Family:

When The Bowery Presents was first established in 2004, we produced club shows all around Manhattan at locations like Webster Hall, Mercury Lounge, and Bowery Ballroom. Our commitment to and focus on artist development brought us to what many saw as a new frontier in September of 2007: Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Music Hall of Williamsburg was one of the first music clubs to start and gain permanency in the North Brooklyn neighbourhood during a period of cultural awakening.

The owners of 66 North 6th Street have informed The Bowery Presents that our lease for Music Hall of Williamsburg will not be renewed after almost 20 years, and our stay in the property will end at the end of 2026. In order to ensure that the heritage of this venue and its influence on the neighbourhood and music in general are preserved in history, we will continue to present events at Music Hall during the upcoming year, making every moment count for both returning artists and up-and-coming talent.

From the very beginning, Music Hall became a cornerstone space for emerging talent and the people behind the scenes who supported them. The venue welcomed a wide range of artists at the earliest stages of their journeys, many of whom later rose to international prominence. Acts such as Mumford & Sons, Tame Impala, St. Vincent, Ed Sheeran, Tyler, The Creator, Brandi Carlile, The xx, The Weeknd, Robyn, Disclosure, The War on Drugs, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Phoebe Bridgers, IDLES, Maggie Rogers, Fred again.., Geese, and Audrey Hobert all performed there early on. As their audiences grew, several of these artists continued their paths with Bowery, moving from intimate club shows to major arenas and stadium tours. Music Hall also drew widespread attention for surprise, low-profile performances by major names like Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, Harry Styles, and Deftones, among many others. Beyond the stage, the venue also played an important role in shaping careers behind the curtain, with numerous Bowery staff members starting at Music Hall before advancing to larger productions and venues.

Although we are unable to predict 66 North 6th Street’s future, The Bowery Presents is appreciative of our time there, the employees that work hard to run the venue, and our company’s overall dedication to artist growth. And just as it has been since we first crossed the bridge twenty years ago, we will continue to be passionate about finding new and exciting places for artists and fans to experience the transcendental power of live music.

For all of us at Bowery, the Music Hall of Williamsburg is a special place. Let’s create an unforgettable last year on North 6th Street.
