Baseball Will Host the Liberty League Championship Tournament

Ithaca College Liberty League Baseball Championship 2025

The baseball Liberty League Championship Tournament is scheduled to start on May 3, the last day of the regular season. For the first time since the 2022 season, when they won their first Liberty League championship in program history, the Ithaca College baseball team will host the tournament this year.

In an attempt to win the Liberty League for the fourth time in a row this season, the Bombers secured the top overall seed and the right to host the competition. Following Ithaca are the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers at number four, the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds at number two, and the Clarkson University Golden Knights at number three. During the regular season, the Bombers had a total record of 6-1 against the three teams.

The Bombers will play the Engineers at noon on May 8 in the double-elimination bracket competition. The Bombers had a 16-5 conference record at the end of the regular season, finishing 24-13. Additionally, on April 13, the Bombers defeated the Engineers 10-2 and 2-1 on the road to sweep their regular season doubleheader. The Engineers finished the regular season with 12 Liberty League victories for a 25-13 record.

At 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Thoroughbreds will play the Golden Knights in the second game. Clarkson had an 18-13 overall record and finished 10-8 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore had a 20-15-2 overall record at the end of the regular season, two ties, and a 12-6 conference record.

The winners will play each other in the fourth game on May 9 at 1 p.m., and the losers will play an elimination game at 10 a.m. to keep their season.

The Bombers have a perfect 9-0 record in the Liberty League Championship Tournament over the last three seasons, receiving invitations to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship each year. In 2022 and 2023, the South Hill team was unbeaten in their region and advanced to the NCAA DIII Super Regional. However, in 2022, they missed out on a trip to the DIII World Series by just one victory. The Bombers lost to the University of Lynchburg Hornets, the reigning national champion at the time, in the 2024 regional stage without winning a single game.

The Bombers hope to improve on past seasons and qualify for the NCAA Championship and the Liberty League Championship Tournament four times in consecutive.
