Amazon Boosts Delivery Speeds in Rural America

Amazon is bringing its quick delivery service to more rural areas of the United States.

By the end of this year, the company announced Tuesday, it will “for the first time” offer same- or next-day delivery to over 4,000 smaller cities, towns, and rural villages nationwide.

Amazon plans to spend around $4 billion by the end of 2026 to treble the capacity of its rural delivery network as part of a previously announced small-town expansion.

Amazon has established rapid delivery as a fundamental aspect of its massive e-commerce operation, especially as it contends with increased rivalry from traditional retail giants like Walmart, as well as emerging players such as Temu, Shein, and TikTok Shop, which have captivated consumers with their heavily discounted products.

According to a press release from Amazon, “this expansion goes beyond speed — it’s about transforming daily life for rural customers, who typically live farther away from brick-and-mortar retailers, have fewer product and brand choices, and face limited delivery options when shopping online.”

As Amazon is ready to launch its longest-ever Prime Day, the announcement was made. This year, the 96-hour event will take place across four days, beginning on July 8 at 12:01 a.m. PT and ending on July 11.
