Adobe releases ‘Firefly’, an AI application with an image generator

This week, Adobe introduced Firefly, a brand-new “family of creative generative [artificial intelligence] models].”

The company said in a release on Monday that its first model would let customers make high-quality text effects and images.

Prepared on Adobe Stock pictures, straightforwardly authorized content and public space content where copyright has lapsed, that model is intended to produce content safe for business use.

“Adobe Stock’s hundreds of millions of professional-grade, licensed images are among the highest quality in the market and help ensure Adobe Firefly won’t generate content based on other people’s or brands’ IP,” it said. It also said that Adobe would continue to prioritize preventing harmful bias as future Firefly models use a variety of assets, technology, and data from Adobe and others.

Adobe stated that it is developing a compensation plan for contributors to Adobe Stock and intends to build generative AI in a manner that enables customers to monetize their talents.

Creators who do not want their content to be used in model training will be able to use the “Do Not Train” tag, which will remain attached to the content no matter where it is used, published, or stored.

Adobe intends to engage its customers and the creative community following the beta’s launch.

Firefly will be directly integrated into Adobe Express, Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and Experience Cloud workflows, according to Adobe’s plans. Adobe Express, Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator are the first applications that will benefit from the model.

Firefly will also be available on application programming interfaces (APIs), which are software intermediaries that allow two applications to communicate with one another. This will make it possible for users to integrate Firefly into custom automations and workflows.

David Wadhwani, president of Adobe’s Digital Media business, stated, “Generative AI is the next evolution of AI-driven creativity and productivity, transforming the conversation between creator and computer into something more natural, intuitive and powerful.”
